But really, can anyone remember the good times for arts funding in Florida?
Performing Arts: In troubled times, arts funding teeters
House Speaker Marco Rubio, a Republican from Miami-Dade County, declared that whole departments might have to be eliminated. One of the candidates for the ax was the Division of Cultural Affairs, which administers arts funding. This marked a new extreme. Not even in the uncertain economic conditions after 9/11 did anyone suggest doing away with arts funding entirely.

Recently I heard Mark Rubio on the WUSF program Florida Matters. His reasons for cutting so many programs was predictable strict father worldviewism.
He said that the “cuts were difficult but necessary”. The Republican legislature continues to grant tax “incentives” to big business to the tune of over 4 billion dollars per year.
Yet he’s willing to make drastic cuts in the arts, education and healthcare?
Jerk!
